Authentication Methods

DagDroid currently supports the following login methods:

Google Cloud Composer (OAuth via Google Account)
Airflow Basic Authentication

🔐 Google Cloud Composer Authentication

If your Airflow environment is hosted on Google Cloud Composer, you can log in with your Google account.

How to Retrieve Your API Endpoint

To connect your Composer environment to DagDroid, you need the Airflow web server URL (API endpoint):

Go to the Google Cloud Console
Navigate to Composer > Environments
Select your environment
Under the "Environment Configuration" section, look for the "Airflow web URI"
Copy that URI and paste it into the DagDroid app as your Cluster URL

In DagDroid, enter:

Cluster Name: Any name you choose
Cluster URL: The Airflow web server URI
Authentication Type: Google Cloud Composer

Then proceed to sign in using your Google Account when prompted.

🧾 Airflow Basic Authentication

If your Airflow deployment is set up with Basic Auth, you can log in using your username and password directly in the app.

Enable Basic Auth in Your Airflow Cluster

To require Basic Authentication on Airflow’s REST API:

Edit your airflow.cfg (under the [api] section) to include:

auth_backends = airflow.api.auth.backend.basic_auth

Or set the equivalent environment variable:

export AIRFLOW__API__AUTH_BACKENDS=airflow.api.auth.backend.basic_auth

Restart the Airflow webserver (and scheduler, if needed) so the change takes effect.

Create or verify users in the metadata database:

airflow users create \
        --username admin \
        --firstname John \
        --lastname Doe \
        --role Admin \
        --email [email protected] \
        --password yourpassword

Login in DagDroid

In the DagDroid app:

Cluster Name: Any label you like
Cluster URL: The public IP or domain of your Airflow webserver (e.g. http://123.45.67.89:8080)
Authentication Type: Airflow Basic Auth
Click Continue and you'll be prompted to enter your username and password
